SOS BBQ and Information Rally
10am to 1pm September 16th, 2013
Water Street and King, St Andrews, NB

SOS members will provide updates on the implications of cuts to federal science programs in southwest NB. SOS members will also be offering barbecued hotdogs and soft drinks. Freewill contributions will go to our continued efforts to raise awareness of the potential negative impact of cuts to science.

In recent years we have seen the staff of the Biological Station cut almost in half. The library has been closed and a world class partner in the areas of ocean science, aquaculture and fresh water research will lose its ability to attract partners and research to look into the on-going impacts on our environment, and the waters that support our economy. Science funding has shifted focus towards the commercialization of research, and government scientists have lost the ability to communicate their research to the public.

Science matters to Canadians. Good science, when coupled with good decision-making, keeps our water and air clean, keeps us healthy, keeps our food safe and prepares Canada for the future. In recent years we have seen the staff of the Biological Station cut almost in half.

Hope to see you there.
