Just days before the federal government is set to release the 2014 budget, a new survey suggests more than 9 out of ten government scientists believe slashed science budgets have hampered their ability to serve the public.

The Environics Research survey, conducted for the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC) between June 5th and 9th, 2013, found 94 per cent of scientists believe the cuts, which roll out over the next few years, have had a negative impact on Canada’s science capacity.

According to the PIPSC report, the Harper government is expected to cut $2.6 billion by 2016, of which $758.1 has already been cut. The cuts have led to the loss of thousands of jobs and the elimination of some government science programs.
