Dear Sirs,

The MP from NB Southwest, John Williamson, in his response to the letter by Caroline Davies of the SOS group, continues his indefensible defense of the DFO position regarding its libraries, especially the one at the St. Andrews Biological Station (SABS) which SOS so rightfully and bravely is trying to save.  The facts are that DFO will not be able to service information requests as they currently do, that the irreplaceable archival and current collections at these libraries and at SABS in particular are being destroyed, and that the DFO will be much less effective as an organization as a result of this wrong-headed federal policy.  When will the MP finally realize that the SW NB community is being severely weakened by the potential loss of its world-renowned marine library, that researchers and students will stop coming to the region as a result, that questions related to sustaining local fisheries and the coastal environment will remain unanswered, and that Canada’s reputation is being harmed internationally? The biological station’s new facility will be an empty shell without a library at its heart.  Mr. Williamson should support SOS and help reverse the closure decision as soon as possible.
